In Annapurna region, there are several popular trekking peaks opend for samall expedition. Among them Mardi Himal is one of the beuatiful peak to scale in your lifetime. Mardi Himal (5,587 m) lies less than 15 miles from Pokhara, and is the most southerly peak of the Annapurna range. From some viewpoints, it seems little more than an outlier on the south-west flank of Machhapuchhare. Mardi Himal is the lowest and perhaps least climbed or visited of the trekking peaks.
The mountain separates the southwest ridge of Machhapuchhare as a separate mass at right angles to the ridge and is best seen from the south. The southwest face of the mountain has three well-defined ridges rising from rock buttresses and separated by hanging glaciers. Its east face is separated from the Machhapuchhare ridge by a col at 5,200 meters. The normal climbing route to the summit of Mardi Himal passes through this col. The summit offers a splendid view of the Annapurna Range other beautiful snow capped mountain range. The valleys and ridges south of Mardi Himal are steep and heavily wooded with bamboo and rhododendron. Alpine pastures above the forest provide a good habitat for wildlife.

The town of Pokhara is set on the banks of the Phewa Lake. It is smaller and much less hectic than Kathmandu providing the perfect starting point for one’s trek. You will be introduced with rest of the trekking assistances. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 04: Trek to Gyachok
We make an early start for the 6-hour drive to Pokhara,. Stopping at the village of Hyenja, we then set off on foot, along the bank of the Mardi Khola which is soon crossed via a rope bridge. We then follow the Seti Kola, through farmed terraces to the village of Gyachok, where we camp for the night. Good views of Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Sano Khoban (1,600m).
After breakfast we walk through the village with its beautifully built houses and dry stonewalls, and friendly villagers. As we climb higher through the paddy field terraces, the much busier villages on the opposite side of the valley become visible. A good track contours along the hillside to Dhiprang and later we reach a super lunch spot by the river. We then pass two more villages, Mirsa and Kaduwa, which are the last settlements we will see until our return trek. The day finishes with a steep climb to the pastureland of Sano Khoban, where we camp. Overnight at camping site.

Day 06: Trek to Pipa (3,150m).
The trail continues steeply, now through forest. The only clearing in the forest is about 1 ½ hours from Sano Khoban, so we may well stop for an early lunch. Then it is a long up-hill struggle through dense forest until we reach 2,900m, where we break out into the open air. A very steep ridge then leads to the small lake at Pipa. Overnight at camping site.

Day 07: Acclimatization day. Yesterday was a long day and we ascended 1,500m, so today is a welcome rest day, to help us acclimatize to the altitude. There is a stream suitable for washing about 20 minutes from the campsite. Overnight at camping site.

Day 08: Trek to Thulo Kharka (4,120m).
We continue up the ridgeline, with fantastic views stretching from the Manaslu group in the east, across the Annapurna to Dhaulagiri in the far west. Eventually we arrive at the pleasant grazing area of Thulo Kharka. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 09: Trek to Base Camp (4,100m). This is a short day and the whole route to base camp is visible from Thulo Kharka. It takes about 2 hours to reach it, where it sits in the obvious valley, which descends between the south and southeast ridges of Mardi Himal. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 10: Acclimatization day.
Another important acclimatization day. It is best to rest during this period rather than try and do too much - there will be plenty of opportunity for exertion later! Overnight at local lodge.

Day 11: Climb to High Camp (4,650m).
It takes about 2 hours to reach the high camp, our take-off point for the summit. First we climb straight up for 200m then traverse around the south-east ridge. A steady climb on rocks and perhaps some snow then leads to the camp site. This is in a good sheltered location but water is scarce and may involve melting snow. Make sure your water bottles are full at the beginning of the day! Overnight at camping site.

Day 12: Climb Mardi Himal (5,555m).
With 900m of ascent before us, we need to make a very early start to ensure success. The first part of the climb is the couloir leading to the East Col (5,400m), between Mardi Himal and Machhapuchare. The base of the couloir is at 4,950m, where we will most likely need to put on crampons. The couloir is a very long snow climb, not steep, but it is sustained and tiring, and it will take about 4 hours to reach the col. On the col it will probably be quite windy (unless we are very lucky), but it is only an hour or so to the top, up a pleasant snow ridge. Once on the summit, we can rest and enjoy being on a Nepalese summit in the midst of the Himalaya. After taking photos and perhaps having a bite to eat, we descend to the high camp and then continue to base camp for a good meal. Overnight at camping site.

Day 13: Trek to Korchon (3,680m).
We take a different route back to Pokhara which stays high up on ridges to allow us to enjoy the views for longer. From base camp we traverse the south ridge to reach a col at 4,280m. We then stay up on the ridge, following it with wonderful views, to Korchon . Overnight at camping site.

Day 14: Trek to Riban (1,780m).
The ridge line continues to Odane Hill. The descent is steep and awkward, being on tussock grass with hidden holes, so care is needed. However, the trail is marked and eventually the grass gives way to forest. Soon after we reach the col below Odane Hill, which is a good view point. Following the ridge line south, we emerge out of the forest above Riban. This is our last evening on trek so it is usual to sample the local brew and have a sing-song with the Sherpas - they are always happiest when the hard work is over! Overnight at camping site.

Day 15: Trek to Hyenja, drive to Pokhara.
The final part of the trek is a lovely walk through Riban and on to Lachock. We cross the Mardi Khola and Mardi Pul which is an excellent lunch spot. Then it's a short walk to Hyenja where we are met by our bus whisks us to the luxury of the Fish Tail Lodge, on of Nepal's most celebrated hotels. It's buildings sprawl across a small island in Phewa Tal, the picturesque lake beside Pokhara. From here we can look back towards Machhapuchare and Mardi Himal, while sitting on the terrace drinking beer! Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 16: After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu.through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills and along the river side for about 7 hours. Rest day at leisure. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

You pass over an impressive suspension bridge and begin to follow the Marshyangdi River, which will become a familiar sight, as it will be your companion all the way to Thorong Phedi. On this section of the road you will gain your first sight of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. After Mugling you turn north and the Annapurna Massif looms as you approach Besi Sahar. After taking lunch here you will begin further driving to Khudi. After crossing the Pam Khola (Khola means river) you follow a gently ascending path through the fertile Marshyangdi valley. After just less than one hour’s drive you cross a bambo bridge which signifies the approach to Khudi, a small settlement made up of local lodges, shops and teahouses. You will cross another bridge to reach the Riverside Guest House, a lodge on the banks of the Nagdi Khola, where you can relax to the sound of the river and look forward to tomorrow’s walk. After a short climb the path begins to traverse the rock face on a broad ledge. You then come to a series of stone steps and pass a couple of “Bhattis” (historically liquor distilleries) on your way. “Bhattis” originally offered just alcoholic drinks and some lodgings but since the advent of tourism they now stock all sorts of soft drinks and snacks. After a while the trail evens out and you will cross through an archway- this is the gateway to Tal and the Manang district. “Tal” is the Nepali word for “lake” and you will see the broad expanse where a lake used to be. The trail leads to the right of this expanse beneath a mighty rock wall on your right. The people of the Manang region are Tibetan in origin and you will see increasing evidence of this Tibetan influence as you continue your trek up to Thorong Phedi. The architecture changes and you will see more Buddhist chortens and gompas. Another hint of this influence can be gained by the lodge names with a plethora of names such as “New Tibetan”, “Lhasa” and “Potala” Guesthouses. The trail from Tal is level for a while, giving a welcome relief for your legs! The Marshyangdi is wide and calm at this point. After an hour you cross a bridge back to the western side of the gorge. Back on the eastern bank you will see the old trail which was used until recently -however due to landslides it is no longer safe. You continue to climb to reach the village of Dharapani, which has numerous hotels and a police check post. While you pass through the village you will see a valley coming in from the east along which the Dudh Khola flows. This is where the Manaslu circuit trek route joins the Marsyangdi River, coming down from the Larkya La. From here there is a “low path” or a “high path” leading to Bagarchhap. The high path involves climbing a series of stone steps for at least 45 minutes, however it is worth it for the view and the two small villages you pass through. The first is called Odar and the second Ghalan Chok. As this trail is little used by tourists, the villages have retained their character and there is not a guesthouse in sight. The villages are surrounded by high terraces of maze and soya beans. From here you make the short descent to Bagarchhap for the night. If you have time you may want to visit the splendid Gompa in Bagarchhap. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Chame (8,628ft/2,630m). 5 Hours
Leaving Bagarchhap you proceed up the valley gaining great views of Annapurna II (7,937m/26,040ft) and Lamjung Himal (6,932m/22,743ft) directly in front of you. After half an hour you will pass through the village of Danakyu. You pass a mani wall and a huge prayer wheel on your left hand side. If you look back you should be able to see the lofty peaks of Manaslu (8,154m/26,752ft), the eight highest peak in the world, and Peak 29 (7,833m/25,699ft). After Danakyu there is the possibility of taking a “low route”. However we recommend you take the “high route” which offers spectacular scenery. You will have a steep climb of just under an hour through a forest populated by pines and firs. The trail then flattens out and you cross a log bridge. You might catch sight of the Langur monkeys, which are resident here. The trail ascends again and looking back, Manaslu now appears closer than ever. The trail takes you through a natural amphitheatre, with high wooded hillsides all around. A short while after you will reach Timang Meadows - a small village. Continuing on, the path is level and after a river you will come to another village called Thanchok. Further up the trail you may get a sight of Annapurna II towering into the sky. The path then rejoins the main trail and in this area the trail is scattered with huge boulders. Descending through woodland you pass through the village of Koto which sits in the shadow of Annapurna II and on your right you will see the Naw Khola joining the Marshyangdi from a northern valley. In Koto there is a small Gompa adorned with brightly coloured paints. The valley then opens out and it is a short level walk to Chame, where you will spend the night. Chame houses the headquarters of the Manang district and you will see district officials riding up and down the trail on horseback, which is still the fastest means of transportation in this area. You enter Chame through an archway and there is a large mani wall just inside. Chame is a good place to do last-minute shopping – you can buy woolly hats and gloves, chocolate and batteries, the bank may be open to change money and you may even be able to make a telephone call. You cross the Marshyangdi to the north side to find your lodge. There are some hot springs five minutes walk from the lodge and excellent views of Lamjung Himal. Overnight local lodge.

Day 06: Trek to Pisang (10,465ft/3,190m). 5-6 Hours
Today will be a shorter walk but the scenery is so wonderful that you will want to take your time. Leaving Chame you pass a few mani walls, one overshadowed by a huge wall of rock to your right. You pass though a small hamlet marked by chortens at each end. The trail here is even and for a while is bordered by an attractive dry stone wall. Soon after you arrive at a water-turned prayer wheel. You pass through the village of Bhratang and continue up until you begin a 45-minute climb through forest, levelling off and then reaching a suspension bridge. Crossing the bridge there is a moderate climb in forest and you begin to move away from the Marshyangdi. The valley begins to broaden out and Pisang Peak (6091m/19,983ft) will be directly in front of you. The woodland here is made up of juniper, pine and fir. You pass a couple of small lakes where wading birds can sometimes be seen. Pisang is divided into upper and lower villages. You cross a small wooden bridge to arrive in Lower Pisang where you will stay in a lodge. It is well worth while crossing the Marshyangdi River and climbing up to the upper village, which is more traditional and has an ornately decorated gompa overlooking both villages. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 07: Trek to Manang (11,482ft/3,500m). 5-6 Hours
On this day there are two options a Low route of 5 hrs or a High route of 6/7 hrs depending on how energetic you are feeling. Either: If you take the lower, less strenuous route, the path out of the valley is pretty level and then once out of the valley you begin to contour round to your left and climb up onto a ridge. The view from this ridge is breathtaking looking down into the Manang valley and you will want to stay here all day to enjoy it! Dropping to the valley floor the path is wide and dusty. You will have noticed that the scenery here is becoming more arid, the air drier and the wind colder. Annapurna III (7,555m/24,786ft) rises to the left and passing through the village of Hongde you will see the deserted remains of the old village on its outskirts. The path then rises gradually and takes you into the next valley. After a couple of hours’ walk you will pass through the village of Braga, just 30 minutes’ walk from Manang. Overnight either at Hotel Yeti or Himalayan Singe - both offer en suite facilities. Or: If you are feeling fit and energetic then the high route on the east bank of the Marshyangdi is strenuous but well worth the effort. You cross the river out of Pisang village and then take a reasonably level path through scrub land, passing a small picturesque lake on your right. You then pass a long mani wall and descend to cross a stream and begin a strenuous zigzagging climb up to the village of Ghyaru (12,050ft/3,673m). A welcome tea shop is the first house you reach in the village. It is well worth climbing up to visit the gompa at the top of the village. The views from here of Annapurna II and Annapurna IV are totally stunning. From Ghyaru you continue up the valley on a wonderful high level trail, passing the ruins of a castle set on a promontory, with views both ways up and down the valley. You then arrive at the village of Ngawal (11,975ft/3,650m) where there is a large newly built gompa up to the right. You leave the village near a long mani wall. Finally you descend back to the valley floor and rejoin the main trail to continue to Braga and Manang. Before continuing it is well worth visiting Braga Gompa, which is the oldest in the area and is a wonderfully atmospheric building. Ask your guide to find the ‘man with the key’! Overnight at local lodge.

Day 08: Rest Day at Manang.
It is essential to spend time for acclimatisation in this area. There are splendid views of the peaks from both Manang and Braga villages. Manang is a large village situated on a rise immediately across from the huge Gangapurna glacier. A beautiful emerald lake lies at its foot. There are plenty of good walks in the area and for at least a couple of hours you should try to climb as high as possible above the village. Side trips are recommended to a small summit with prayer flags about an hour above Braga village, or up the ridge behind Manang village, or to a viewpoint above the lake opposite Manang Village. It is also possible to walk up the valley towards Tilicho Lake to the village of Khangsar. In addition it is worth visiting the Manang Gompa or, if it is open, visit the clinic run by the Himalayan Rescue Association – they often have talks about altitude in the afternoon. There are also shops to explore for souvenirs. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 09: Trek to Chulu West Base Camp
Overnight at camping site.

Day 10: Trek to High Camp
Overnight at camping site.

Day 11: Summit Chulu West 6419M/21054ft and back to Base Camp

Day 13: Trek to Thorong Phedi High Camp(16070ft/4900M). 4-5 Hours
Again today is another short day, yet essential for proper acclimatisation. Leaving Yak Kharka you will pass through the small collection of lodges known as Letdar. You will take a high route, which winds its way around the eastern side of the Thorong valley, before dropping down to the valley floor. Crossing the river there is a short but sharp climb to Thorong Phedi. Phedi means “foot of the hill” and while it is the jumping off point for crossing the Thorong La it is not the prettiest place in the world! In the afternoon it is worth walking up beyond the first notch to the collection of huts known as upper base camp, as an acclimatisation walk, and then continuing up to the right to a small peak for superb all round views. Watch out here for blue sheep and snow leopard! Overnight at local lodge.

Day 14: Cross Thorong La (17,764ft/5,414m) Trek to Muktinath (3800M) 8-9 Hours
TREK TO MUKTINATH (12,500ft/3,810m). Approx. 8-10 HOURS Today you will need to have plenty of water with you and you may also want to have your down jacket with you. Starting at dawn or thereabouts you first ascend steeply for 1½ hours to a rock ledge and notch at 15,350ft/4,679m, then continue up along an ascending and undulating trail. This ascent will seem endless and be warned – there are several false summits - but there are great views back down the valley as you go. Finally, after anything from 3 to 5 hours, you arrive at the top of the Thorong La (17,764ft/5,414m) with its large cairn and many prayer flags. You will have spectacular views of the Annapurna Range to the south and the Mukat Himal bordering Dolpo to the west. The peak immediately south of the pass is Thorong Peak – this is a ‘trekkers peak’ and you may see people climbing here. You will probably not want to linger too long at the pass as it can be very cold and you will probably be feeling the effects of altitude. The descent to Muktinath is very steep and takes some 3 to 4 hours. This is where you might appreciate having walking poles to take the strain off the knees! During the descent there are splendid views of Dhaulagiri (8,175m/26,821ft) and Tukuche Peak (6,920m/22,703ft) and all the way down into the valley of the Kali Gandaki below. Finally you see the buildings of Muktinath coming in to view. You bypass the enclosure round the famous temples and descend to the main village, which is actually called Ranipawa and not Muktinath, a name which technically refers just to the temple. Overnight at local lodge.
MUKTINATH
The temples at Muktinath are one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus and Buddhists. It is mentioned in the classic Indian epic, the Mahabharata, and you may see pilgrims bathing in the holy water flowing from the 108 spouts carved in the shape of cows’ heads surrounding the Vishnu Temple. The temple is built in Tibetan style and contains huge brass idols of Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma and Kali. Muktinath is home to many ethnic Tibetans and is holy to Buddhists as well, particularly for the temple in which fire miraculously burns in a stream of water! Pilgrims to Muktinath are able to gain Karma merit in a number of ways. The fire and water temple represents to Buddhists the life giving butter lamp that lights the path to enlightenment. Taking seven steps in devotion at Muktinath can help free you from the grievances of a bad rebirth. If you erect a silk banner at Muktinath you will be reborn in a future life as a universal monarch. Muktinath remains a place of atonement to its pilgrims in this modern age. You start your trek today by walking down from Muktinath. You walk for about half an hour north of the police station to reach the pleasant village of Chhyonkhar. Here a wooden bridge over the river must be crossed. A proper road has not reached this area, but the Village Development Committee has a budget for building it. You take the downhill path and cross the suspension bridge to reach Jhong – a beautiful village. There is a very old monastery here dating back to the 7th or 8th century and the ruins of an old fort. The village has 40 households and a restaurant named Milan where tea and coffee is served during the tourist season. After walking downhill for another half an hour to 45 minutes, you reach the road crossing at Putak. There are two roads leading out - the lower road goes alongside the river and leads to Khinga while the upper road goes towards Kagbeni. After walking along the upper road for some time, you cross the suspension bridge to arrive at Kagbeni. This route used to fall within a restricted area, but now ACAP has opened it up so as to avoid the road. Kagbeni is a fascinating oasis in this arid landscape. It is the most northerly village of Mustang that you can visit without a permit and it is worth walking through its narrow streets of ancient houses, through to the end of town, to see the Thak Khola valley stretching away to the north. The ancient gompa is also worth visiting. In the autumn watch out overhead for migrating demoiselle cranes which fly down the valley on their way to India from Siberia and Tibet. The Red House Lodge is an ancient house with old wall paintings and its own private gompa room with an impressive statue of Buddha. Overnight lodge.

RNP 05 LOBUCHE PEAK (18 Nights / 19 Days)

The Lobuje Mountain consists of two different summits, viz. East and West with heights of 6,119 m and 6,145 m respectively. A continuous ridge connects them but there is still a sharp gap and a considerable distance between them. The East Peak is recognised as a trekking peak, whereas the West is known as an Expedition Peak.

Lobuje being an attractive mountain offers various existing routes and also a potential for new ones. The dark triangle of its rocky East face rises over the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier to a spectacular skyline, forming the south ridge.

The peak of Lobuje East is reached by descending a marked notch and climbing steep snowy slopes to the top. On most occasions, the mountain is climbed on the summit ridge only as far as a subsidiary snow summit, south?east of the true peak and before the notch. This peak is identified as the false peak. Laurence Nielson and Ang Gyalzen Sherpa made the first ascent to Lobuje East on 25 April 1984 although there are possibilities that others have reached the summit before. But no records are available.

If you prefer to Thame it takes approximately 7/8 hours walking both way go and return to Namche. it is popular for visiting Thame monastery or simply just go to Viewpoint in the stand point of splendid view of the Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8848), Lhotse (8516m), Lhotse shar (8382m), Nuptse (7879m), peak- 38(7591m), Ama dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6623m), Kangtega (6783m), Kusum kangaru (6367), Cholaste (6335m), Tabuche peak (6495m), Khumbi La (5765m) and Kwangde Ri (6011m) etc. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 06: Trek to Thame (3,801m). 3 - 4 hours.
Today you head north-west, up the Nangpo Drangpo valley (Bhote Khosi). As you walk up the valley, up to your left you have fine views of Kwangde (6,343m) and the waterfalls cascading off its flanks. You continue high above the river, the Bhote Khosi, on a contouring trail through fine rhododendron forest. Watch out along here for colorful Impeyan Pheasant (the Nepalese national bird) and small deer. Just before the village of Thamo you cross a side valley (Kyajo Kola) and from there you can look back for fine views of Thamserku (6,648m) and Kusum Kangru (6,370m). You might choose to visit the little nunnery passed just as you leave the village. Leaving Thamo you continue up the valley, still staying high above the river before descending to cross the river near some Buddhist rock paintings. For the final part of the walk you climb alongside a small stream to arrive at the cultivated fields in front of Thame village. This is where Tenzing Norgay, the first Sherpa ever to climb Mt. Everest, lived for many years with his first wife. If you are still feeling energetic on arrival you could make the short climb (about 1 hour) to Thame monastery clinging to the cliff side above the village in a truly spectacular location. The monks here have a Mani Rimdu festival every year in the late spring. You climb to the top of the ridge above the village and then ascend left to the monastery. From the monastery terrace there are fantastic views back down the valley of the mountains beyond Namche. As you descend from the monastery it is worth while walking to the end of the ridge to look up the valley towards the Nangpa La, a pass to leading to Tibet and a principal trade route between Nepal and Tibet for many hundreds of years. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 07: Trek from Thame to Lungden (14,272ft/4350m) 5-6 hours

You round a bend and see the attractive, moderately sized village of Tangmote. You descend to the village and pass a huge chorten as you continue along a very well-trodden, wide path. The trail is strewn with mani walls and a small chorten as you progress through the village. After about an hour you walk parallel to the village of Yellajung on the other side of the Bhote Koshi. The trail continues on a gentle, ascending path on the hillside above Bhote Koshi. After approx. 2hrs walking you come to the village of Tharngga at 13,100ft/4,000m. You will start to feel the altitude here. Tarngga comprises a sprawling collection of stone houses, and you have superb views of Kongde Ri as you look down the trail. A further 45 minutes or so on a gradually rising trail brings you to Marlung, 13,779ft/4200m, where you will probably stop for lunch. A rough, ascending, pebble-strewn path marked sporadically with red arrows, brings you in an hour to Lungden –14,271ft/4350m. Overnight at local lodge.

You continue ascending for a couple ofhours until you reach Black Lake and the col. Here you can see your objective, the Renjo La, and its prayer flags some 800ft/250m above. The trail is now very good – stone steps almost all the way to the pass. Itzig-zags across the hillside, and you will really feel the altitude here. It takes approx 5/6 hrs to reach the pass. The descent to Gokyo will take approx 3hrs, and the first part is often snow covered and moderately steep. It is marked with cairns. Eventuallythe path becomes a good trail which leads to the Dudh Pokhari Lake and Gokyo. Overnight at local lodge.

Day 09: Rest day in Gokyo/ Gokyo ri (17,585ft/5,360m)
You can enjoy tremendous views from nearby Gokyo Ri. Unlike Kala Pattar from Lobuche where you have a long walk in to make the climb, the foot of Gokyo Ri lies just 5 minutes away from the lodges at Gokyo, across the stream that feeds the lake. A two to three-hour 'huff and puff' on a zig - zagging trail leads to the summit from where the views are well worth all the effort involved. There are good views of Everest (29,028ft/8,848m)which shows its summit and northern flank and Makalu (27,798ft/8,475m) is seen further to the east. To the north is Cho Oyu (26,741ft/8,153m) and all around snows, ice, glacial moraines and other giants can be seen. Below is the village of Gokyo, the picturesque Gokyo lakes and the debris littered surface of the huge Ngozumba Glacier. Descend to Gokyo for lunch. Among them Singu Chuli (Fluted peak) is one is the papular and beuatiful peak to scale in your lifetime. Singu Chuli (6,501 m.) was formerly known as Fluted Peak, which is most popular among the trekking peaks. This peak rises just near by Tent peak in Annapurna Himalayan range. The first ascent of this peak was made by Wilf Noyce and David Cox on its North?East Face and the top section of the East Ridge. This mountain has proven to be very difficult to climb for most commercial climbing groups who have tried to concentrate on Tent Peak.Singu Chuli is the first summit on the long ridge thrown down from Tarke Kang (Glacier Dome), which separates the South and West Annapurna Glaciers. Annapurna South Base Camp provides the best distant view of the mountain. To date, apart from the original route, most efforts to climb this mountain have concentrated on the face and ridges seen from this viewpoint. The southwest ridge of the mountain connects with Tent Peak. The terrain between the two mountains is a confusing one and the ridge is not straight. Please beware that the area is stone falling prone area and the peak is technically very difficult to climb. Due to global warming, the landslide occurs numerous times resulting in the change of the route.

RNP 14 AMA DABLAM EXPEDITION (29 Nights / 30 Days)

Popularly known as the 'Matterhorn of the Himalaya', the overwhelming ice-coated granite pyramid of Ama Dablam dominates the sky above the trekker's trail to the Everest Base Camp. The mountain derives its name from the glacier lying on its Southwest face. The glacier looks like a jewel box hanging on the neck of the mountain, hence the name Ama Dablam, literally meaning 'The Mother's Jewel Box'. Interestingly, when a team led by Edmund Hillary scaled the mountain for the first time, Nepal's King nearly imprisoned Hillary for climbing the sacred Ama Dablam without permission.

The standard ascent to Ama Dablam is made via the South-Western Ridge, the same route followed by Ward (UK), Bishop (USA) and Gill (NZ) in the first ascent of the mountain in 1961. The route offers varied and sustained climb with reasonable level of difficulty. Three high camps are set up at strategic points. The climb is moderate up to Camp 1, then it gets challenging up along the narrow granite ridge. Negotiating pitches of steep ice and snow slopes, the route gets more technical from Camp 2. From Camp 3, skirt around the hanging glacier or the Dablam, cross snow arete (A sharp ridge) and bergschrund(A gap or crevasse at the edge) between ice cliffs, and scale the summit.

Day 10-25: Ascending and Descending of Ama Dablam Top 6856m/22488ft
Based on their previous Himalayan Glacier Expedition experience, the expedition leader with other crew members make the planning and other necessary ground work for the ascent. A few days may be spent on the Base Camp for organizing food, acclimatization, and practicing rope and other mountain climbing skills.

A typical strategy would look like what follows:
After getting established on the Base Camp, move further up to Camp 1 at 5,700m (17,400 feet) along the standard route. Generally, one night is spent at camp 1for acclimatization and then returning to the Base Camp for the final preparation to scale the summit. There are three camps above the base camp before reaching the summit. The ascent from Base Camp to camp 1 is technically challenging. From Camp 1, follow existing fixed lines. Establish new ropes wherever necessary both for ascent and descent. The climb from Camp 2 to Camp 3 is mostly ice and mixed-climbing. The climb from Camp 3 to the summit is relatively less technical. By the Day 26, scale the peak before getting back to the Base Camp.
